The UNLOCKED research began in 2013 and has focused mainly on the creation of the UNLOCKED book published in Athens in 2015 and on a program of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, performances and artist residencies. The whole project aims to “unlock” the depiction of the naked body in the post-photographic, digital era. The comprehensive, 512 page publication constitutes one of the first official recordings of a new visual language, which has emerged from contemporary digital platforms and other forms of social media.
In the context of the UNLOCKED research Atopos cvc launched the Occupy Atopos artist residency in October 2014. The resident artists ‘occupy’ the premises of Atopos cvc and present their work on the subject of the Naked Human Body using a variety of media, such as photography, drawing, video, painting, collage and installations. The Dreamer is the sixth artist-in-residence after the participations of David Marinos, Clo’e Floirat, Kostis Fokas, Ren Hang and ΝAR in the programme.
In the ground floor of the Atopos building there are two rooms, the room with the Dreamer Pencils and the pink room.
The Dreamer pencils are made by styrofoam, the building material to sound proof walls and all of them are of different length. The biggest of them is 1.70 meters long, while the smallest one is just 30 centimetres.
In the pink room, there are four old Dreamer prints. These mixed media prints are colorful collages of different papers and are the first artworks maybe with the characteristic Dreamer pastel pallet. Last but not least, these prints have been the inspiration for creating the new artworks for this exhibition.
Especially for this show, a new collectable edition of the UNLOCKED book was made. This special edition consists of just 40 books. The Dreamer used the white cover of the book as his canvas and created an artwork working as a puzzle of 40 pieces. Thus, every book is unique. You can purchase the book at http://atopos.gr/shop/
Last but not least, during the opening event, 4 different screen print posters were given for free to the first 100 attendants. Each artwork is an edition of 30 pieces and each piece is unique as everything is printed by hand.
